Astounding Microsoft Student Discount
If you're the parent of a student, you need to know ...that there's a nice student discount available from Microsoft.
Seems like only yesterday that the folks at Gear Diary (a daily read of yours truly) had uncovered the 40% discount on MS Technet. It was actually Tuesday they blogged about the 40% discount which drops the TechNet subscription to $209 USD.
Well, campers, that's nothing. Then yesterday, they unearthed something even more amazing for any of us who have kids in school: a TechNet Student Discount. All the gory details are here, but the short story is that legitimate students (which probably means taking a Notes 8 Upgrade class doesn't count) can subscribe to TechNet for a mere $99. Put this in perspective - a student copy of Office is $149.00 ....
I trust the folks at Gear Diary ... but this almost sounds too good to be true. If you're interested (and how could you NOT be?), I'd jump on this before MS changes their mind .....

Thanks for posting this.
What's so great about this? You can get better software for free: Linux, OpenOffice, GNU C++, etc...

First, nice to have you stop by the joint ...
Secondly, you kind of missed my point. I surely wasn't trying to shill for Microsoft
My message was more for those who might need to shop for a Microsoft product - say they've got a kid going to college or somethng similar - and for them this is an unbelievable deal. My daughter, a college Sophomore, recently checked out school bookstore pricing for MS Office. Even at the student rate, Office alone was $150.00. A Technet subscription (including media) is $599.
$99 sounds pretty good!
But, all that said, my daughter has been working happily with NeoOffice, the Mac version of Open Office ... and, yes, it's free.
